Marvin Douglas Allbritton

Marvin Douglas "Doug" Allbritton, 75, of Fulton, Mo., passed away on Monday, December 8, 2014. He was born on June 20, 1939, in Pine Bluff, Ark., the son of the late John Marvin and the late Raydo (Hicks) Allbritton. Doug was married to Nancy Carolyn (Dickinson) Allbritton. The couple wed December 27, 1964, in Monroe, La. She preceded him in death in 1992, and they were reunited in heaven upon his death. Doug earned his undergraduate degree in Theatre at Baylor University, and graduated with a Masters of Fine Arts degree from Henderson University. Upon graduating, Doug worked in theatre in Dallas and spent six years in New York City, working both off and on Broadway. He taught at Monroe City, Mo. High School prior to moving to Fulton. Doug was a speech and drama teacher at Fulton High School for 25 years, where he taught a number of classes and directed the school's theatre program. Upon his retirement, the Fulton High School theatre was named in his honor. Doug's shows and students won state honors a number of times, and he directed thousands of students over the years, many who have gone on to pursue education, communication and fine arts careers. In addition, Doug taught courses at William Woods University and Westminster College. Doug was a member of First Presbyterian Church and a supporter of arts in Fulton. Doug's memory will be cherished by his two sons, Christopher A. Allbritton and wife Aimee of Springfield, Ill. and A. Channing Allbritton and wife Carol of Fulton, Mo.; his grandchildren, Andrew, Carolyn, Micalister, Caidin, Maxwell and Nancy; as well as his brother, Enoch W. Allbritton and wife Sarah of Arkansas. A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014, at the Winston Churchill Memorial on the Westminster College campus in Fulton. The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Burial will occur at a later time at Pinewood Memorial Cemetery in Crossett, Ark. alongside his wife Nancy.
