John E. Messina, 59, of Fulton, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014, at home. He was born November 1, 1954, in Thibaux, La,, the son of the late Anthony Messina and Jane (Copeland) Messina. John attended Texas City High School, College of the Mainland, and barber school in Houston, Texas. John had many talents. He was a Class A Barber and Instructor and an avid collector and appraiser of fine art, jewels, and antiques. He loved gardening, garage sales, and his little dog Toby. John was a member of St. Peter's Catholic in Fulton. John's husband of 39 years, Jeff Coleman, survives at their home. He is also survived by: his mothers, Jane (Copeland) Messina and Shirley J. Young; brothers, Frank (Robin), Jim (Vicki), Anthony (Amy), and Joe (Cathy); sisters, Georgia Lindsay (Ron), Glenda Coleman (David Marsh). He also had many cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; and brothers, Charles E. Messina and Gregory R. Coleman. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 20, 2014, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Jason Jordon officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
