Thomas E Turner

Thomas E. Turner, 77, of Fulton, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012, at his home. He was born February 20, 1935 in Hannibal, the son of the late Hadley and Lorene (Robinson) Turner. On May 19, 1957, Tom was united in marriage to Betty F. (James) Turner, who survives of the home. Tom graduated from Moberly High School and attended State Teachers College in Kirksville. He served in the U.S. Army 2nd armored division stationed in Germany. Tom was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing pool at the Senior Center. He retired from the Fulton State Hospital after 43 years in the recreation department. He officiated MSHSAA activities including football, basketball, baseball, track, and cross country. He was recently elected to the Missouri Track and Cross Country Hall of Fame. In 2010 he received an award for service to Missouri School for the Deaf Athletics. Tom also received the MSHSAA award for 24 years of service, the Distinguished Service Award 1999-2000 and the Fulton Athletic Booster "Joe C Ward" Service Award. Tom will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, one son, Hadley Turner and wife Linda of Lenexa, Kan.; one daughter, Beth Baysinger and husband Dennis of Fulton; three grandchildren, Julie Turner, Ryan Baysinger, and Abby Turner; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by one brother, William Turner. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Maupin Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Mallinckrodt officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday at the Maupin Funeral Home. Interment will be held in the Callaway Memorial Gardens.
