Robert E Meyer

Robert E. Meyer, 78, of Fulton, passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, at his home. He was born August 7, 1933, in Glasgow, Mo., the son of the late Walter J. Meyer and the late Martha Roettgen Meyer. Robert served as Private 1st Class in the US Army, H&S Company out of Wolters Air Force Base in Mineral Wells, Texas, from July 3, 1953, to June 1, 1955. While serving there, he earned a national defense service medal. Prior to his service there, Robert served as a deck hand for the Army Corp of Engineers in St. Joseph, Mo. from 1950 to 1953. Robert played fast pitch softball in his younger years and was thought to be the best pitcher in Central Missouri at that time. He coached the clients of the Fulton State Hospital and went to districts. He played for Mexico Falstaffs and the Stover Carpet team out of Jefferson City. He dedicated his life to the Fulton State Hospital for over 30 years. In 1972, he helped build Seaman Field at Fulton State Hospital, which is still in use today. Robert will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by close personal friends, Loran and Nora Hume, Darrell and Taylor Hume, Dallas and Wilma Matthew, and David and Beth Hume. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by close friends Paul and Flo Hume. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday August 4, 2012, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service, also at Maupin Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Callaway Memorial Gardens.
