Barbara Seip

Barbara (Babs) Seip, 79, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Millersburg, Missouri on Sunday, May 1st, 2011. Babs was born July 21, 1931, in Ilkeston, Derbyshire England, to Hector and Dorothy Richardson, who preceded her in death. She was trained as an Ophthalmic Nurse at the Nottingham and Midland Eye Imfirmary in Nottingham, England. Babs met Carl Seip while he was stationed in the Army in England. She came to the United States on the Queen Mary and married Carl on February 28, 1953, in Pennsylvania. They moved to Millersburg later that year to be near her sister and mother. Babs became the switchboard operator for the local telephone service in Millersburg. She was very active in the community as a 4-H Leader and PTO Officer. Creating a warm, friendly community was very important to her. Babs organized annual community Halloween parties, dances, and spent countless hours preparing memorials for those who passed away in the community. Babs created and wrote by hand the Millersburg newspaper entitled "News in a Nutshell by Babs," which she mailed to subscribers around the world for 16 years. Being artistically talented she created posters and fliers for numerous community events, functions and businesses. As an avid pet lover she assisted residents in locating their lost pets or finding homes for strays in the community. She created the British Wives Club, pulling together British wives in Central Missouri for family events and the Winston Churchill Memorial dedication in 1969. Babs is survived by her loving husband, Carl of 58 years. Also surviving are her children Wendy (Seip) Coan, husband Kelly and son Max of Colorado Springs, Co., Lisa (Seip) Edwards, husband Bryce of Columbia, Mo., and sons Blake and Alex, Robyn (Seip) Frame, husband Bill of Fulton, Mo., and daughters Hannah and Olivia, Christopher Seip and son Caleb of Clarksburg, Mo., and Julie (Seip) O'Donley, husband David and children Zachary, Haley and Dalton Wilfley, Megan and Madalynn O'Donley of Fulton, Mo., and her two half-brothers Peter and Ewart Richardson of England, and several Bryant nieces and a nephew. Babs was preceded in death by her only sister, Jean Bryant of Columbia, Mo. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Cancer Research Center, 3501 Berrywood Dr., Columbia, Mo. 65201, or Millersburg Fire Protection District, 4285 State Road J, Fulton, Mo. 65251. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
