Marcella Batterton

Marcella Batterton, 88, of Auxvasse, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, at The Neighborhoods in Columbia, where she resided for two weeks. Born in Auxvasse on December 17, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur S. Foster and the late Justeen (Garrett) Foster. Marcella graduated from Auxvasse High School in 1950. On August 22, 1950, she married Bus Rountree. A year later, daughter Sheila was born. Together, they owned and operated several businesses in Missouri and California. In 1959 she returned to Auxvasse and worked at the bank. On October 6, 1960, Marcella married Burgin Batterton. To this union, daughters Sabrina and Stacey were born. In 1995, Marcella retired from Columbia Orthopaedic Group where she worked as an Insurance Clerk for almost 20 years. She loved to travel and had a special fondness for the beach. She was a devoted homemaker and caretaker for Burgin until his passing on November 27, 2000. She lived independently for her remaining 21 years, indulging her passion for her dogs and cats, and flowers. She will be fondly remembered by daughters, Sabrina McDonnell (Eric), and Stacey Canterbury (Bryan); grandchildren, Shelly Brown, Jason Brown (Casey), Shawn Brown (Brandi), Jay Michael Borcherding, Kaisha Borcherding, Madison McDonnell, and Grant McDonnell; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and six nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Marcella was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila Rountree Brown Borcherding; infant sister; and brother, Wilbur "Bo" Foster. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Auxvasse Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to Central Missouri Humane Society, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Boulevard, Fulton, MO 65251.
