Roger Lyle Elder, 79, of Fulton, passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021, at his home surrounded by family. Roger was born in Holt County, Mo., on September 29, 1941, to the late Charles D. Elder and the late Lillian (Rose) Bell. On November 12, 1981, Roger married Hazel (Case) Elder who survives his passing. Roger was a Vietnam veteran serving in the U.S. Army active duty 1963-1966 and the reserves from 1966-1973. He retired from A. P. Greens after 34 years of service. His hobbies were woodworking, bowling, playing dice and cards with family and friends and even enjoyed going to hear the morning gossip at Karon's Dinner. Roger loved nothing more than spending time with his family, he considered them his greatest achievement. Roger will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 39 years, Hazel; sons, Perry Lane Herring of Fulton, Alex Lyle Elder (Sandra) of O'Fallon, Ill.; daughters, Brenda Street (Samuel) of Fulton, Bonnie Lynn Clopp (Garry) of Fulton, Tina Kay Elder (Andrew Parker) of St. Petersburg, Fla.; brother, Gary Elder of St. Joseph; sisters, Joyce Grissom of Moulton, Ala., Penny Gastineau of Hiawatha, Kan.; 12 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by his son, Paul Leroy Herring; sister, Lois Brady and her husband Skip. Memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2021, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Inurnment will be in Callaway Memorial Gardens with Full Military Honors.
