Elda Harriet Scharlau

Elda Harriet Scharlau, 95, of Fulton, passed away at Fulton Manor on Wednesday, April 14, 2021. She was born in Paxton, Illinois on January 20, 1926, to the late William Balk and the late Elsie (Krumweide) Balk. On December 9, 1945, Elda was united in marriage to William S. Scharlau. He preceded her in death on July 5, 2007. Elda was first and foremost a wife, mother, and homemaker. She belonged to Lady's Aid at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chebanse, Illinois. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and making rugs. Elda will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by son, William R. Scharlau (Mildred) of Dallas, Ore.; daughters, Harriet M. Smith (Michael) of Fulton, and Sharon K. Ely of Fulton; brother, Merton Balk (Neoma) of Buckley, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held at a later date at Miller Creek Cemetery in Millersburg.
