Joyce Marie (Throckmorton) Epperson

Joyce Marie (Throckmorton) Epperson, age 84, of Fulton, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Joyce was born on September 6, 1936 in Mountain View, Mo., the daughter of Eldo Leroy and Margaret Marie (Marik) Throckmorton, who preceded her in death. Joyce graduated from Hickman High School in 1954 and attended University of Missouri where she met her future husband. Joyce was married to Robert L Epperson on December 28, 1956, sharing 59 years together before he preceded her in death in 2016. They moved to Fulton, Mo. in 1958 where Joyce was a committed stay-at-home mother but always found time to volunteer within the community and with the activities of her children. She was known as "Granny" to family and friends and for giving out hugs to anyone that needed them. She was involved in the following volunteer roles: part of the parent committee that started the Fulton High School All Night Party, was a Medical First Responder who gave of her time to the Callaway Ambulance District, Fire Districts, and the CCH Emergency Room. Joyce was a Crisis Response Team Member for the Fulton Police Department, an American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Instructor, and served on the Fulton Housing Authority board of directors. Joyce was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fulton and served many roles there, including being an elder. She received the following commendations and awards for her volunteer work: the Callaway Chamber of Commerce Loyal Subject Award in 1990, the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 44 Appreciation Award in 2010, and The Kingdom of Callaway Settler's Award in 2015. Joyce is survived by her children: Linda (Tim) Baysinger and David (Connie) Epperson, all of Fulton; grandchildren: Jennifer (BJ) West of Trimble, Mo., Amy (Brandon) Hargrove of O'Fallon, Mo., Kellyn Baysinger of Mission, Kan., Brittney (Larry) Rukse of Fulton, Taylor (Freddie) Manor III of Jefferson City, Mo., and Kaitlyn Epperson of Fulton; Five great-grandchildren: Colten and Brooks West, Briella and Freddie IV Manor, and Broderick Rukse. She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Epperson, and a brother, Leroy Throckmorton Jr. Private graveside services and burial will be at Callaway Memorial Gardens on November 12, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Aaron White officiating. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
