Betty Lou Monson-Stevens, 76, of Millersburg and Rhineland, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2020. She was surrounded by her loved ones at home after losing her battle to ovarian cancer. Betty was born to Henry and Anna Schwabe in Carroll, Iowa on May 26, 1943. She and her nine siblings were raised on a farm in Maple River, Iowa. Betty attended Kuemper Catholic High School and later moved to Carroll, Iowa to attend cosmetology school. On July 21, 1962, she married Ronal William Monson, whom she had four children with. Later in life, Betty spent 13 years with Earl Leon Spencer of Millersburg, Mo., until his passing in 2009. In the last few weeks of her life, Betty married Jerome Stevens in the eyes of the Lord. Throughout the years Betty was a hairstylist, cake decorator, baker, and a wonderful stay at home mother for her children. The last job she had before retirement in 2013, was at Tucker Hall, located at William Woods College in Fulton, Mo. where she was known as "Betty the Baker." She loved dancing, gardening with exquisite flowers, baking, and loved cross-stitching baby quilts for all of her grandchildren. She especially loved spending time with her kids, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. She may have lost her battle to cancer, but she fought her hardest until the end. Betty is survived, and will be greatly missed, by Jerome Stevens; her four children, Debbie Monson (Kenny), Tina Ferris (Randy), Ronda Burry (Rusty), and Ronal Monson Jr. (Beth); 12 grandchildren Ashlea Burry (John), Dillon Meritt (Calli), Johnathan Jennings (Victoria), Nick Monson, Steven Burry (Samantha), Brooke Monson, Luke Burry (Ravyn), Kaylee Jennings, Dalton Meritt (Sarah), Tia Burry, Myranda Spratt (Cody), and Justin Ferris; five great-grandchildren Makayla Carinder, John Montana Carinder, Raydin Meritt, Dallas Carinder, and Riley Meritt. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Anna Schwabe; three sisters, Elaine Hoffman, Marion Bellcock, Dorothy Eickmen; and two brothers, Donnie and Bobby Schwabe. Betty's wish was to have no funeral service but only a celebration of life. Private family graveside and burial will be at a later date in Callaway Memorial Gardens with Fr. Mike Coleman officiating.
