Sidney "Slick" Simons

Sidney "Slick" Simons, age 69, of Mokane, Mo., passed away on Friday, May 8, 2020 at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo. Sidney "Slick" Simons was born in Washington, Ga., on July 23, 1950, the son of Howard "Skip" Simons and Ruth Palmer Simons. He grew up in the country near Warrenton, Ga., and in 1969 graduated from Warrenton High School. In 1970, his daughter Kim was born. Slick worked mainly in construction and in 1978, he moved to Missouri to work building the Callaway Nuclear plant. In 1984, he met his future wife, Kathy. He began having heart problems in January 1992 while working in Bishop, Texas. From then on, he worked hard to control his heart failure and to remain active. Slick enjoyed classic cars and motorcycles, hunting and fishing, gardening, being out in nature, and music. He volunteered for many years at the Callaway County Public Library, and with the Friends of the Library book sales until this year. In addition to his wife, Kathy Hill, Slick is survived by daughter, Kimberly Simons Carter (Brian) and granddaughters Sarah and Emily; sister, Peggy Benson (Grady); sister, Jeanie Wells (Tony); niece, Marie Duffie; cousins, Jack Yelton and Marsha Mooney; brother-in-law, Steve Hill (Susan Sims); nephew, Zach Hill; niece, Audrey Goddard; brother-in-law, David Hill (Tomoko); and nephew, Jimmy Hill. Slick is also survived by a group of special friends in Georgia, including cousin Sam Simons, Charley Rodgers, Johnny James, and Madison Bolton. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by cousin, Steve Cooper. Private family service will be held on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Debo Funeral Home. Burial will be held in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens in Thomson, Ga.
