Lilburn Chester Love

Lilburn Chester Love, 90, passed away on Monday, October 21, 2019, at Presbyterian Manor in Fulton, Mo. Mr. Love was born in Ashburn, Mo. on May 23, 1929 to Harvey and Valirea (Cox) Love. He was one of eight children who grew up in Louisiana, Mo. He was a graduate of Central Grade School and Louisiana High School. He married Dorothy Guerrant on August 5, 1951, who preceded him in death on November 11, 2012. He was in the Army from 1951 to 1953, earning a Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the Korean War. Mr. Love spent most of his life working in the business world, starting with Louisiana Lumber Company during his high school years. He was in the furniture business for 12 years before and after his military service. He owned and operated a Western Auto Store followed by 10 years as manager of Gibson Discount Store. Most people remember him working for Walmart for 18 years. While living in Kansas for six years, Mr. Love and his wife Dorothy helped start a Southern Baptist Church in Paola, Kan. He served as deacon and choir director of this church. Moving to Fulton, Mo. in 1966, he and Dorothy became members of First Baptist Church in Fulton, where he assisted on several committees, was the Sunday School Superintendent for 21 years, served as a deacon, and was also a member of the choir. Over the last 13 years, Mr. Love's home has been at Fulton Presbyterian Manor, where the staff and residents deeply loved and cared for him. He and his beautiful singing voice will be sorely missed by all. Chester, go and embrace your new home and body in heaven! Mr. Love is survived by two sons, Brian (Debbie) Love of Chapel Hill, Tenn., and Phillip (Angela) Love of Black Hawk, S.D.; five grandchildren, Jason (Rebekah) Myers of Wright City, Mo., Angie (Jason) Hill of Chapel Hill, Tenn., Zachary (Aurora) Love of Gainesville, Fla., Joshua (Jessica) Love of Henryville, Ind., and Hannah Love of Black Hawk, S.D.; and six great-grandchildren, Morgan, Noah, and Ryan Hill; and Grace, Drake, and Devin Myers. Mr. Love was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and seven siblings: Charles, Ray, Averon, Orion, Mary (Love) Copher, Maxine (Love) Weber, and Laura Catherine (Love) Hart. Funeral services with Pastor Brian Love and Brother Joshua Love officiating will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton.
