Clifford L. Holt, 94, of Holts Summit, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at Valley Park Retirement Center. He was born on March 7, 1925, in Callaway County, a son of the late Lewis Thomas and Eula (Cave) Holt. Clifford was united in marriage to Ruth Whittler, who preceded him in death. Clifford served his country in the United States Navy from 1942 until 1946 during World War II. He was employed as a truck driver for over 30 years with Brown Yancey Trucking and Potter Trucking. Clifford served as a Deputy Sheriff for Callaway County for eight years and was founder of the New Bloomfield Police Department, where he also served as Chief of Police for over 10 years. His most rewarding position was the more than 25 years spent with the New Bloomfield School District as Crossing Guard. Upon his retirement in 2017 they named the cross walk after him. Clifford was a member of the VFW Post 1003 in Jefferson City. He was selected as a participant for the Central Missouri Honor Flight to Washington, D.C. Clifford was a member of Oak Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Guthrie where he served for over 50 years as Deacon and for over 50 years as the Superintendent of Sunday School. He enjoyed playing the guitar at church but his love was his family. Clifford is survived by his daughter: Ruth Ann Kelley of Jefferson City; son: James Holt of Omaha, Nebraska; brother: Fay Holt of Eldon; granddaughter: Shaunda Collins of Kansas City; great-grandchildren: Mariah Collins and Cedrick Barringer Jr.; adopted daughter: Gracia Yancey Backer of New Bloomfield; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and a whole host of friends. He was preceded in death by a son: William Paul "Billy" Holt; and brothers: Wheeler Holt, Ancel Holt and Jack Holt. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2019 at Oak Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Guthrie. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. following visitation with Rev. Marion S. Mitchell officiating. Interment with full military honors will immediately follow in Oak Chapel Missionary Baptist Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Central Missouri Honor Flight.
