Fulton offense hits valley in 10-0 loss at Boonville

After winning a tournament in Camdenton over the weekend, Fulton lost 10-0 on Monday at Boonville.

The Lady Hornets (12-7) had five hits during the five-inning game, with five of them coming from two players.

Sophomore Jayna Hedgpath led the offense, going 3-for-3, along with senior Rylee Baker, who went 2-for-2.

Fulton pitching had a down night, starting with freshman Maddison Bright allowing two earned runs, junior Marah Walley allowing three runs (one earned) and freshman Mylee Hawkins allowing seven runs (five earned) and striking out five. Combined, the three allowed 12 Boonville (7-5) hits and four walks.

Head Tim Echelmeier said it was important that this game not be taken for granted, especially after the high-level of play Fulton showed in the four weekend tournament games.

"We talked about not letting this be a let down game after playing at a high level this weekend," he said. "Going forward, each player has to recognize and play with more focus, no matter who the opponent is."

Fulton (2-3 NCMC) will go back to conference play and home at 5 p.m. Thursday when its hosts Marshall (5-7, 2-3 NCMC). The Lady Hornets have lost their last three conference games but defeated the Lady Owls 11-0 on Sept. 2 at Marshall.
