Fulton scores deciding goal on free kick in 4-2 win against Missouri Military Academy

Fulton has won its first five games after defeating Missouri Military Academy in a close 4-2 win.

The Colonels (1-3) tied the game in the 10th minute of the second half before the Hornets (5-0) regained its lead thanks to goals by senior Dillon Jones and junior Bahir Sherzad.

Fulton allowed the first goal in the 15th minute of the first half before a couple of the team's leading scorers intervened. Senior Alban Dervishi tied the game in the 17th minute off an assist by sophomore Christian Mahoro and then junior Dominick Tharp scored the go-ahead goal in the 30th minute off the feed from Dervishi.

With the game tied at 2 in the second half, Jones scored on a free kick in the 70th minute and then Sherzad scored unassisted to give the Hornets some last insurance with about four minutes left in the game.

The Hornets had 12 shots on goal for the second straight game, and junior Grant Avery made eight saves.

"We are super proud of the grit and determination that the boys played with tonight and are excited to be 5-0 on the season," head coach Joel Henley said.

Fulton (1-0 NCMC) is scheduled to play its next game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Marshall (3-1, 2-0 NCMC).
