Fulton, New Bloomfield, North Callaway medal at Bowling Green

Fulton, New Bloomfield and North Callaway all collected some hardware Friday at the Bowling Green Invite.

New Bloomfield senior Nathan Hinrichs finish runner-up in the varsity boys 5,000 meters behind Southern Boone's Connor Burns. He, along with Fulton's senior Shaun Wolfe and freshman Noah Thompson, medaled in the boys race while North Callaway sophomore Pressley Schmauch and New Bloomfield senior Mikaela Lemelin earned the honors in the girls race.

Hinrichs finished about 20 seconds behind Burns but posted a time of 15:53.48, making the two the only runners on the day with times less than 16 minutes. Senior Brian Figard had a 41st-place time of 18:19.43 as part of the team's 13th-place finish out of 21 teams.

Wolfe was the top Fulton finisher with his sixth-place time of 16:42.95 while teammate Thompson ran to a 21st-place time of 17:45.75. Sophomore Kai Foster was the next best Fulton boy with a 39th-place time of 18:14.34. Every other runner on the team finished in the top 60, leading to a sixth-place team finish.

The Thunderbirds' best boys finisher was junior Brendan Reinhard in 63rd with a time of 18:52.51 as part of their 17th-place finish. The Ladybirds had the best Callaway County girls finish in Schmauch's 16th-place time of 21:11.15 and had a sixth-place finish in the team standings. Seniors Rachael Jeffries, Lydia Backer and Piper Jeffries had 34th-, 45th- and 59th-place times of 22:24.59, 23:03.53 and 23:45.22.

Three spots behind Schmauch was Lemelin at a time of 21:27.32. New Bloomfield took 11th as a team while Fulton was behind them in 12th. Freshman Kaelyn Tighe had a 73rd-place time of 24:30.01 for New Bloomfield while Fulton had three finish close to each other in sophomore Emily Boyd in 67th, freshman Emily Begemann in 68th and junior Jonna Vanzetti with times of 24:01.68, 24:02.93 and 24:04.77.

District competition Saturday in Linn is next for all three schools as New Bloomfield runs in the Class 2 District 3 meet while Fulton and North Callaway run in the Class 3 District 3 meet.
