Ladybirds take regular season finale at Bunceton in four

North Callaway has doubled its win total from a season ago.

After a season the Ladybirds won two matches, they won their fourth match this season in four sets (25-20, 25-14, 23-25, 25-20) at Bunceton.

Freshman Natalie Shryock led the team in kills with seven while senior Hannah Cundiff finished with six.

Now North Callaway (4-18) has made progress from a year ago, head coach Andrew Klein said he would like to see some progress against its first-round opponent in the Class 3 District 7 Tournament, Bowling Green (9-13), at 6 p.m. today in Montgomery City.

The Ladybirds have played the Lady Bobcats twice this season, as part of the Eastern Missouri Conference schedule, losing the first meeting in four sets (24-26, 27-25, 23-25, 17-25) and the second in three (23-25, 19-25, 17-25). Despite losing both matches, Klein said North Callaway played them close and feels like they know Bowling Green better than most other opponents in their district.

"We couldn't ask for a better matchup because we know them and know what they do," Klein said. "They beat us both times, and it's hard to beat a team three times."
