Fulton's Ousley in top 20 after Day 1 of Class 2 state girls golf

COLUMBIA - Fulton junior Grace Ousley is four strokes outside of all-state contention after Monday's opening round of the Class 2 girls golf state tournament at Columbia Country Club.

Ousley shot a 20-over 91, tying St. Dominic's Catilyn Smith for 19th place out of 79 state qualifiers.

In Monday's round, Ousley birdied the par-4 fifth hole, adding four pars and six bogeys to her scorecard.

Her teammate, senior Grace Siegel, is in a five-way tie for 31st place after shooting a 26-over 97.

Siegel made par on the par-4 second hole and finished with 11 bogeys in her round.

Siegel is a returning state qualifier. She tied for 33rd place last year with a two-day total of 196 in the Class 2 state tournament, which was held at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club in New Bloomfield.

Marshfield's Marlene Edgeman is atop the leaderboard with a 1-over 72, two stroke ahead of School of the Osage's Hanna Maschhoff, while Visitation Academy is leading the team standings by 42 strokes with a 333.

The state tournament concludes today with another round of 18 holes.

Ousley begins her round on hole No. 1 at 9:33 a.m. with Ava Sanford of Visitation and Sophie Hinds of Helias, while Siegel tees off at 9:51 a.m. on hole No. 10 with Jaida Cox of St. Joseph Benton and Sarah Appelbaum of St. Louis: Notre Dame.

The top 15 golfers and ties receive all-state honors.
