Fulton gains six all-NCMC players, district final after 11-1 win against Winfield

Hours after six Lady Hornets were named to the North Central Missouri Conference team, they took care of business by winning their Class 3 District 6 semifinal game against Winfield 11-1 in five innings in Mexico.

Some of the six helped No. 2 Fulton earn its latest run-rule victory as sophomore Reagan Echelmeier, senior Alex Trowbridge and senior Elaina Gray each drove in two RBI along with two others and junior Marah Walley allowed just three hits and one run and struck out three in five innings.

Gray made the first impact with an RBI double in the second to score the first run of three in the frame. Sophomore Sam Hedgpath followed with an extra base hit and RBI of her own, tripling as part of a 2-for-3, two RBI day.

Winfield scored its only run the third before Fulton answered with some power from senior Alex Trowbridge as she hit a home run to drive in her first of two RBI. Gray added her second RBI on a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1 Fulton after three innings.

Soon after in the fifth, Fulton threw its knockout punch with five runs in the frame, including RBI hits from Echelmeier and senior Rylee Baker - who finished 3-for-3 with two RBI.

After collecting 23 hits and 21 runs in 11 innings played, the Lady Hornets (21-8) will turn its attention to No. 1 Hallsville (19-5) in a 4:30 p.m. Friday championship game in Fulton, if conditions stay dry enough.
