Wolfe wins, Fulton boys take second in Hannibal

The Fulton boys were amongst some of their fellow North Central Missouri Conference schools Saturday at the 2021 Frank Lemons Invitational in Hannibal.

The hometown Pirates took the boys team title, but Fulton was just behind them in second and were led by a first-place effort from senior Shaun Wolfe.

Wolfe won the individual boys title with a 17:48.60 that beat out two Hannibal runners.

Four Pirates appeared in the top 10 as part of Hannibal's top team score of 27. Fulton had three others finish in the top 10 to contribute to the team's second-place score of 39. Kirksville and Moberly came in third and fourth with 101 and 107 points, respectively.

Freshman Noah Thompson finished fourth behind Wolfe and the two Pirates with a time of 18:30.10. Freshman Noah Combs and sophomore Kai Foster ran to eigth and ninth with times of 18:59.40 and 19:01.50. Sophomore Devin Merritt and senior Josh Bonnell rounded out the Fulton boys in the top 20 of 46 total runners with 18th- and 19th-place times of 19:46.90 and 20:03.30.

The Fulton girls finished fifth with 123 points as Clark County had a best team score of 45. Moberly and Kirksville would finish third and fourth with 58 and 64 points, respectively.

The top Lady Hornets was freshman Emmy Begemann with her time of 25:11.10. Junior Jonna Vanzettit was the second-best at a 28th-best time of 26:07.90 and rounded out the Fulton girls in the top 30.

Fulton will run Tuesday in the Centralia Invitational before competing in the NCMC Meet Saturday at Kirksville.
