Fulton's defense stingy in 58-49 win at Bowling Green

Fulton's defense was stingy in its first game of the season at Bowling Green.

The Lady Hornets springboarded off a strong defensive start to defeat the Lady Bobcats 58-49 on Friday night.

Head coach Matt Wilbers said the team had some early foul trouble and had to shuffle the lineup in the first half, but Fulton (1-0) was making it hard for Bowling Green's offense at the same time, taking a 17-4 lead out of the first quarter.

"We had some foul trouble early, but in the first game back, we came out, played really well rotating in the back of our zone," Wilbers said. "We forced Bowling Green into early turnovers."

Sophomore Jayna Hedgpath also made a difference for Fulton off the bench, scoring 14 points and only trailing sophomore Kier Henderson's 15 points. Senior Kiah Pittman was brought in off the bench and held down the guard position with Hedgpath as she finished with 10 points. Senior Alex Trowbridge added seven points.

Wilbers continued to bring in Lady Hornets off the bench, such as freshmen Arianna Connor and Kenzie Shock, who helped Fulton maintain a 27-24 lead over Bowling Green (0-1) going into halftime and then a 44-37 lead after three quarters.

Bowling Green's Kaylyn Charlton led the floor with her 18 points while Grace Deters added 14 for the Lady Bobcats.

Fulton stays on the road for its next game at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Belle.

Fulton's junior varsity team lost 16-9.
