Prep Track and Field: New Bloomfield boys place second in Class 2 Sectional 1

MOKANE, Mo. - The New Bloomfield boys came in second place Saturday in the Class 2 Sectional 1 meet at South Callaway High School.

The Wildcats won two events and finished with 73 points in the team standings, trailing Fayette by four points.

New Bloomfield compiled 36 points in two events. Nathan Hinrichs won both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, while Caleb Distler took second in each event.

Distler will be a state qualifier in four events, placing second in the 800-meter run and fourth in the 4x800-meter relay. Hinrichs, Brian Figard and Jace Pitzen also ran on the 4x800.

Adam Deppe qualified for state with a third-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles and a fourth-place finish in the long jump, while Hunter Dawson took third in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Russellville boys placed eighth as a team with 44 points. Gabrial Little led the Indians with a first-place finish in the 110 hurdles and a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles. Campbell Nichols was also third in the 800.

Russellville will go to state in two relay events, as Nichols, Arjay Wilson, Simon Hartman and Bryce Mehrhoff took second in the 4x800 and Little, Nichols, Wilson and Hartman were fourth in the 4x400.

The Eugene boys tallied 24 points at sectionals. The Eagles were led by Garret Robinett, who was fourth in both the 100 and the 200. Dylan Koeppen also took fourth in the 110 hurdles.

Koeppen and Robinett were joined by Jordan Bittle and Devin Haeffner on the team's third-place 4x400 relay.

The South Callaway boys will have a pair of state qualifiers, as Brendon Mealy placed third in the pole vault and Kyle Dickinson took fourth in the discus. Linn's Zachary Dodson also qualified for state with a fourth-place finish in the pole vault.

Belle led the area teams in the sectional girls standings, as the Lady Tigers finished sixth with 44 points. Jefferson: Festus won the sectional title with 62 points, one better than Caruthersville.

Gracie Schultz and Susan Moman each qualified for state in three events for Belle. Moman won the javelin and finished third in both the shot put and discus for the Lady Tigers, while Schultz took second in the long jump and fourth in both the 100 and the 200.

The Eugene girls tallied 27 points at sectionals. Olivia Angerer placed second in the high jump for the Lady Eagles, Mikayla Luebbering was runner-up in the 800 and Katelyn Peterson placed third in the pole vault.

Eugene also qualified for state in the 4x400, as Kynsie Engelbrecht, Shae Engelbrecht, Makenna Short and Mikayla Luebbering finished fourth.

New Bloomfield advanced to state in three events, as Mikaela Lemelin was third in the girls 3,200, Brooke Talbot was fourth in the pole vault and Ellie Emerson was fourth in the javelin.

Myra Baker qualified for state in two events for the Linn Lady Wildcats. Baker was third in the 800, and she was joined by Ramsie Tschappler, Erika Platt and Ellie Monnette on the 4x800, which placed third at sectionals.

Tipton's Lily Burns won the girls shot put, accounting for 10 of the Lady Cardinals' 12 points, and Russellville's Trinity Riggs advanced to state with a second-place finish in the girls discus.

The top-four finishers in each event advance to Friday's Class 2 state track and field championships, which will be held at Adkins Stadium.
