Fulton baseball tops Eldon 7-5 to take third in home tournament

Two big innings propelled the Fulton Hornets to a 7-5 victory against the Eldon Mustangs on Friday in the third-place game of the Fulton Tournament at Darrell Davis Field.

Southern Boone defeated Fatima 7-6 on Friday to win the Fulton Tournament championship game.

A four-run third inning for Fulton began with a leadoff double by No. 9 batter Paul Houf, who scored on Allen Walker's one-out triple.

Fulton added a second run on a wild pitch and Dustin Hagens finished off the outburst by driving in two runs with a single to center field.

Josh Dunmire added an RBI double as part of a three-run fifth inning.

Eldon scored a run in the sixth and four in the seventh.

Two of Fulton's eight hits came off the bat of David Gibson, who singled twice.

Hagens was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits and a run with six strikeouts and two walks in six innings.

Fulton (8-14) will conclude the regular season Monday by hosting South Callaway at 5 p.m.

The Hornets are the No. 5 seed in the Class 4 District 7 Tournament, which begins next Saturday in Ashland.

Fulton will face No. 4 seed Wright City at 1 p.m., with the winner advancing to play May 17 against top-seeded Southern Boone.
