Prep Baseball: North Callaway 10, Sturgeon 1

STURGEON - Matt Weber drove in a team-high four runs Friday, leading the North Callaway Thunderbirds to a 10-1 win against the Sturgeon Bulldogs.

Weber hit a two-run single in the first inning and followed that with a two-run double in the second for the Thunderbirds.

North Callaway scored all of its runs by the end of the third inning. The Thunderbirds opened the game with five runs in the first inning, then added three in the second and two in the third to take a 10-0 lead.

Sturgeon scored its run in the bottom of the fourth to avoid the run-rule.

Weber and Althiser each had two hits to lead the North Callaway hitting attack.

Davis Woods pitched the first three innings for the Thunderbirds, striking out six. Sam Pezold won in relief, throwing the final four innings and fanning two.

North Callaway (8-10) will play next week in the Fulton Tournament. The seventh-seeded Thunderbirds open against No. 2 Fatima at 6:30 p.m. at Darrell Davis Field in Fulton.
