High school boys' basketball: North Callaway 71, New Bloomfield 41

MOKANE - Senior guard Cody Cash produced a game-high 22 points as the fifth-seeded Thunderbirds eased past the No. 8 Wildcats in the consolation semifinals of the South Callaway Tournament on Thursday night.

North Callaway (6-6) was only up 21-17 after the first quarter, but outscored New Bloomfield 17-3 in the second quarter to widen its lead to 38-20 at halftime. The Thunderbirds then outscored the Wildcats 20-15 in the third quarter to stretch their advantage to 58-35.

Cash connected on four 3-pointers and logged six assists, while sophomore guard Matthew Weber - who also had four 3s - supplied 16 points for North Callaway. Senior forward Grant Eichman came off the bench to contribute five points and eight rebounds.

"It was a great team win," Thunderbirds head coach Matt Miller said. "We had excellent performances from our players off the bench and our starters played about 20 minutes and did a good job.

"We're really happy to be playing for the consolation trophy."

Senior guard Adam Deppe topped the Wildcats (1-11) with 18 points, including three 3s.

North Callaway will face either No. 6 seed Calvary Lutheran or No. 7 South Callaway for fifth place at 8 tonight.

New Bloomfield travels to Linn for a Show-Me Conference game at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22.
