High school girls' basketball: Fulton 48, Marshall 43

CALIFORNIA - Senior guard Kayanna Gaines logged a game-high 23 points and the Lady Hornets halted a three-game losing streak by turning back the Lady Owls in round-robin play at the 27th-annual California Tournament on Wednesday night.

Fulton (2-5) was in front 15-11 after one quarter and maintained a 30-26 lead going into the break. The Lady Hornets carried a 37-31 advantage into the fourth quarter.

"I was proud of the girls - we were very happy with this game," Fulton head coach Matt Wilbers said. "They're feeling pretty good, but we're not satisfied with where we're at.

"We want to continue to improve."

Two players finished with 11 points apiece for North Central Missouri Conference opponent Marshall.

The Lady Hornets continue tournament play against Rock Bridge's junior varsity team at 6 p.m. Friday.
