High school girls' basketball: California 69, Fulton 37

CALIFORNIA - The Lady Hornets were dissected by a 30-point outburst from Tristan Porter in a loss to the Lady Pintos to open round-robin play at the 27th-annual California Tournament on Monday night.

Porter's performance included seven 3-pointers.

"Tristan Porter has a lot of range and shooting ability, but she extended it far beyond the range we expected," Fulton head coach Matt Wilbers said. "She lit it up."

The Lady Hornets (1-5) trailed 12-5 after one quarter and California outscored Fulton 18-9 in the second quarter to increase its lead to 30-14 at halftime. The Lady Pintos owned a 51-25 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Kayanna Gaines and senior forward Sydney Hedgpath guided the Lady Hornets with 12 points apiece.

"In the first quarter and for most of the first half, we got the shots we wanted but we just couldn't get the ball to fall," Wilbers said. "California sped us up a little bit and put us in positions that we didn't want to be in."

Lauren Hill added 10 points for the Lady Pintos.

Fulton continues tournament play against North Central Missouri Conference opponent Marshall at 6 tonight.

"We're excited to continue playing basketball," Wilbers said. "We want to see what we can do against them and use it as a gauge (for upcoming conference play)."
