High school boys' wrestling: Fulton's Uhls, Dunmire prevail at Excelsior Springs

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS - Juniors Owen Uhls and Josh Dunmire took first place at 138 and 285 pounds, respectively, as the Hornets placed 10th as a team at the Excelsior Springs Tiger Classic on Saturday.

Freshman Jayden Ayers finished third at 170 as Fulton compiled 78.5 points.

Uhls - who went 5-0 to remain unbeaten on the season at 19-0 - pinned Grain Valley's Tanner Barker in just 56 seconds in the title match at 138. Dunmire was 4-0 in the round-robin format at 285 to stay perfect at 13-0 overall, edging Warrensburg's Brendan Bromwell in a 3-2 decision in overtime in his final match.

Ayers (19-3) pinned Benton's Josh Peek in 2:41 in the third-place match at 170.

Freshman Jaren Kern (6-6) came in fourth at 220 for the Hornets, while sophomore Nick Ash (19-6) took fifth at 152. Sophomore Gabe O'Neal (10-13) finished sixth at 126 and freshman Elijah Brocksmith (6-6) placed seventh at 160.

Carthage locked up the team championship with 199.5 points.

Fulton competes in a quad meet at Hallsville at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
