High school girls' basketball: Camdenton cruises past Lady Hornets in 58-27 rampage

CAMDENTON - Mya Hulett connected for a game-high 15 points to direct the Class 5 Camdenton Lady Lakers to a 58-27 romp over the Fulton Lady Hornets on Friday night.

Fulton (1-4) was only down 13-9 after one quarter, but Camdenton outscored the Lady Hornets 20-5 in the second quarter to widen its lead to 33-14 at the break. Fulton outscored the Lady Lakers 13-8 in the third quarter to close the gap to 41-27, but Camdenton pulled away by blanking the Lady Hornets 17-0 in the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Kayanna Gaines led Fulton with 10 points and senior forward Sydney Hedgpath chipped in with nine.

"We played on our heels," Lady Hornets head coach Matt Wilbers said. "Camdenton did a lot of things similar (defensively) to Southern Boone (in 41-30 loss Thursday night), and we didn't get the shots we needed to have.

"I thought we played hard, but we kind of got punched in the mouth again."

Elle Turner and Payton Kincaid also tallied 10 points apiece for the Lady Lakers.

Fulton faces host California to open play at the California Tournament at 6 p.m. Monday.
