South Callaway girls suffer first loss to state-ranked Boonville

MOKANE - Boonville had four players score in double figures as the state-ranked Lady Pirates handed the South Callaway Lady Bulldogs their first loss of the season 69-41 on Saturday.

South Callaway (3-1) owned a narrow 20-19 lead after one quarter, but Boonville outscored the Lady Bulldogs 20-11 in the second quarter to take a 39-31 advantage into halftime. The Lady Pirates stretched their edge to 49-37 by outscoring South Callaway 10-6 in the third quarter, then turned the contest into a romp by outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 20-4 in the fourth quarter.

Senior guard Paige Clubb lead South Callaway with 21 points and junior guard Raegan Brown scored 12 points.

Addi Brownfield countered with a game-high 25 points to spark Boonville (7-1), ranked sixth in Class 4 by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association. Kourtney Kendrick and Kennedy Renfrow chipped in with 13 points each, while Jodie Bass finished with 10.

"The girls played hard. Boonville is a really tough team and well-coached - we played with them until the fourth quarter," Lady Bulldogs head coach Daniel Burns said. "We got gassed and turned the ball over too many times.

"We knew this was going to be a test and we have some things we have to clean up moving forward."

South Callaway travels today to play at North Callaway. Game time is 6 p.m.
