High school boys' wrestling: South Callaway advances three to sectional meet

VERSAILLES - Freshman Eli Benningfield captured a title at 170 pounds and the Bulldogs moved all three of their wrestlers on to sectional competition during the Class 1, District 3 championships Saturday.

The top four finishers in each weight class will go back to Versailles for the Class 1, Sectional 2 championships Saturday, Feb. 27.

Freshman Noah Kinney finished second at 138 for South Callaway on Saturday and sophomore Aaron Hargis took third at 145. The Bulldogs placed seventh as a team with 50 points.

Benningfield (24-7) prevailed with a 5-3 decision over Versailles's Jacob Schrock in the championship at 170.

Kinney (11-6) was pinned by Knob Noster's Nathan McDonald in 54 seconds in the title match at 138. Hargis (12-8) won by injury default over Tipton's Cody Malark for third place at 145.

Versailles marched to the District 3 team title with 206 points. Knob Noster was a distant second with 139 points.
