High school boys' wrestling: North Callaway qualifies 11 for sectional competition

PALMYRA - The Thunderbirds advanced all 11 of their wrestlers, including two individual champions, to the sectional round during the Class 1, District 2 championships Saturday.

The top four finishers in each weight class will return to Palmyra for the Class 1, Sectional 1 championships Saturday, Feb. 27.

Capturing individual titles for North Callaway on Saturday were sophomores Eli Henry and Mathias Lobb at 160 and 152 pounds, respectively. The Thunderbirds came in second as a team with 148 points.

Earning second-place finishes for the Thunderbirds were sophomore Connor Green (120), junior Blake Whipple (138) and senior Joshua Selby (182).

Collecting third-place finishes for North Callaway were freshman Lane Kimbley (113) and sophomores Grant Bell (145) and Carson Safranski (126).

Fourth-place finishers for the Thunderbirds were freshmen Riley Humphrey (132) and Cashton Holloway (106), and sophomore Caleb Rohrbach (195).

Henry (31-11) tallied an 11-8 decision over Palmyra's Hayes Miller in the title match at 160. Lobb (15-13) pinned the Missouri Military Academy's Gabriel Canonico in 45 seconds in the championship at 152.

Green (23-5) fell by pin to Centralia's Jesse Shannon in 1:29 in the title match at 120, while Whipple (23-8) was pinned by Centralia's Kyden Wilkerson in 3:01 in the championship at 138. Selby (4-1) lost by injury default to MMA's Christopher Bryant in the title match at 182.

Kimbley (33-7) pinned MMA's Landon Kjolhede in 1:00 for third place at 113, while Bell (23-15) posted a 14-5 major decision over MMA's Brett Miles in the third-place match at 145. Safranski (21-18) scored a pinfall over Trinity Catholic's Jonathan Pimenteo in 3:00 for third place at 126.

Humphrey (17-10) dropped an 11-2 major decision to Father Tolton's Justice Martin in the third-place match at 132, while Holloway (13-11) was pinned by Hallsville's Paxton Martin in 1:44 for third place at 106. Rohrbach (8-27) lost by pin to MMA's Phasakorn Cunningham in 1:16 in the third-place match at 195.

Centralia decisively captured the District 2 team title with 194 points.
