New Bloomfield takes right step in 49-30 loss vs Tipton

The New Bloomfield boys were on the losing end of the scoreboard again Thursday in the Tipton Tournament but took a step in the right direction.

Head coach Zach Buscher thought the Wildcats played much better against host Tipton in their consolation round game. They just weren't able to put it all together in the 49-30 loss. Senior Trevor Jordan led New Bloomfield for the third time in four games with his 12 points while freshman Jake Fuhriman added six points off the bench.

The teams remained close as Tipton (1-1) led 10-7 after one but widened its advantage with a 25-7 halftime lead. The lead grew to 35-15 after three, highlighted by Jackson Bailey's 3-pointer.

New Bloomfield (0-4) managed to double its score in the fourth quarter as the shots fell more, Buscher said. The Wildcats get a chance to put their game together more at 4:30 p.m. today against Chamois (0-3) in the seventh-place game after the Pirates lost 42-34 against Jamestown on Thursday.

"Defensively, we really played well," Buscher said. "Shots weren't falling so we couldn't get over that hump. I felt like we took a step in the right direction."
