South Callaway falls in Tipton duals

South Callaway wrestling had several wins Tuesday in Tipton but ultimately dropped the duals.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs lost 36-18 against California and were edged out 21-12 by the hosting Tipton. Sophomore Noah Kinney had a couple victories before the end of the night.

Against California, freshman Ayden Mumford won by pin late in the first period in the 145 weight class while Kinney won by pin fall in the 152 weight class when he was ahead 8-4 in the first period. Sophomore Eli Benningfield pinned his opponent in the first period in the 182 weight class. For the girls, sophomore Lilli Lewis won her first-ever match in the 174 weight class, winning by pin fall in the third period.

Kinney gave South Callaway another win against Tipton, recording a pin fall in the second period. Mumford, though, lost a 13-7 decision and couldn't seize a couple of opportunities to pin his opponent. Benningfield won his match by forfeit while Lewis lost by pin fall in the first period.

South Callaway wrestles in a quad meet at 6 p.m. today in Wright City, facing the hosting Wildcats, Missouri Military Academy and Gateway.
