Girls Basketball: Ladybird shots don't fall in 51-20 loss to Centralia

The North Callaway girls had the shots but not the makes Tuesday night.

The Ladybirds hosted Centralia and lost 51-20 during an evening North Callaway struggled to put the ball in the net. Freshman Natalie Shryock led the way with five points followed by several other Ladybirds who had four, including senior Ryelle Schmauch.

The Lady Panthers (1-1) were coming off a 56-46 loss at California and had a lead after one quarter in Kingdom City. North Callaway was coming off a 57-22 home victory against Calvary Lutheran.

The Ladybirds (1-1) trailed 9-5 and limited Centralia to 12 in the second quarter but only managed another five to fall behind 21-10 at the intermission.

Head coach Tim Turlington said despite the final output, he thought his team played well but just couldn't get the shots to fall down. There were several moments in the first half where the Ladybirds had a layup opportunity only for it not to result in points, which gradually led to the deficit increasing to 40-16 after three quarters.

"We played well, but we just couldn't make the shots," Turlington said. "We'll be fine as we did a good job working as a team."

North Callaway stay at home Thursday against Silex (0-1), with the junior varsity game starting first at 6 p.m.
