High School baseball: New Bloomfield tops Wellsville-Middletown 12-3

WELLSVILLE - A seven-run seventh inning provided plenty of cushion Tuesday for the New Bloomfield Wildcats, who defeated the Wellsville-Middletown Tigers 12-3.

New Bloomfield scored four runs in the first two innings, but Wellsville-Middletown battled back to make the score 5-3 through four innings.

Lucas Buscher went 2-for-4 with a bases-clearing triple in the seventh to lead the Wildcat offense. Ashton Schuster had a three-hit performance with a double and two RBI.

Michael Saleny had a pair of singles, while Breycin Dysart finished the game with a single, a double and two RBI. Trevor Jordan added a double and two RBI in the win.

Dysart was the winning pitcher for New Bloomfield. In three innings of relief, he gave up an unearned run on two hits, striking out five and walking four.

Schuster pitched the first three innings for the Wildcats, walking two and striking out three while giving up two run and two hits. Jordan pitched a scoreless seventh, walking two and striking out two.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for Wellsville-Middletown (5-2).

New Bloomfield (3-4) will host the New Bloomfield/Calvary Lutheran Tournament this weekend. The Wildcats, the No. 5 seed, will host fourth-seeded Lone Jack at 3:15 p.m. Friday.
