Prep Baseball: St. Elizabeth 5, South Callaway 2

MOKANE - The South Callaway Bulldogs dropped their first game in Show-Me Conference play Monday, losing 5-2 to the St. Elizabeth Hornets.

Carson Kesel hit a leadoff home run to left field to start the game for the Hornets, who also had two runs score in the third inning and two more cross the plate in the fifth.

South Callaway's Jonathan Thomas broke up Caleb Oligschlaeger's no-hit bid in the bottom of the third inning with a one-out double. He scored on another double by Jacob Lallier to cut the St. Elizabeth lead to 3-1.

Brock Lucas and Dylan Wobbe had back-to-back RBI hits in the third for the Hornets. In the fifth, Wobbe and Cole Otto each had RBI doubles.

South Callaway scored its second run on an error in the bottom of the seventh, but the Bulldogs made their third out on the basepaths between third base and home plate to end the game.

The Bulldogs were held to three hits. Lallier had two of them, adding a one-out single in the fifth.

Wobbe was 4-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Hornets. Lucas, Otto and Isaac Green each added two hits.

Oligschlaeger was the winning pitcher for St. Elizabeth (4-4, 2-1 Show-Me), striking out 12 batters in five innings.

Jacob Martin took the loss for the Bulldogs. In three innings, he allowed three runs on six hits and struck out two.

Dane Daugherty and Thomas each pitched two innings of relief, as each finished with two strikeouts.

South Callaway (5-10, 2-1 Show-Me) will continue its homestand Friday against Wright City.

St. Elizabeth won the JV game 12-1.
