North Callaway girls second, boys third in home track meet

KINGDOM CITY - The North Callaway girls track and field team placed second while the boys were third Tuesday in the North Callaway Thunderbird Open.

Centralia won the girls team title with 246 points, with North Callaway taking second with 94 points. South Callaway placed fourth with 51 points and New Bloomfield was 10th with 31 points.

Centralia also claimed the top spot in the boys standings with 183.5 points, beating out Versailles' score of 86 points. North Callaway was next in third at 84 points and New Bloomfield finished fourth with 79 points. South Callaway recorded 42 points to take eighth.

Pressley Schmauch led the Lady Thunderbirds, taking first in the 3,200-meter run in a time of 12:44.42 and placing second in the 1,600-meter run with a mark of 5:58.59.

Trinity Brush won the discus with a throw of 95 feet, 1 inch.

Kaleigh Moore ran to a pair of third-place finishes, timing in at 2:47.36 in the 800-meter run and at 6:11.59 in the 1,600.

In the pole vault, Ryelle Schmauch took third by clearing 6-11.75.

Cody Cash led the North Callaway boys team with a runner-up finish in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.89 seconds and a third-place result in the 200-meter dash in a time of 25.03.

Also claiming third-place finishes for North Callaway were Lane Kimbley (3,200, 11:08.64), Tristin Webb (long jump, 19-10.75) and Josh Selby (discus, 117-7).

New Bloomfield distance runners Caleb Distler and Nathan Hinrichs racked up points for the Wildcats.

Distler finished first in the 1,600 (4:35.89), second in the 3,200 (10:21.60), second in the 800 (2:12.81) and third in the triple jump (38-7.75).

Hinrichs won the 3,200 in 9:53.49 and took second in the 1,600 in 4:38.38.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Hunter Dawson finished third (48.16).

New Bloomfield's 4x400-meter relay team of Dawson, Aiden Carr, Jace Pitzen and Gabe Browning took third in 4:04.54.

The New Bloomfield girls had a pair of third-place finishers: Mikaela Lemelin (3,200, 13:37.46) and Brooke Talbot (pole vault, 6-11.75).

South Callaway's Raegan Brown posted two top-3 finishes, taking the runner-up spot in the 200 (28.62) and third in the 400-meter run (1:08.05).

Finishing just ahead of Brown in the 400 was Paige Clubb in second (1:06.64).

South Callaway's Lacey Mathews-Honarmand was the runner-up finisher in the pole vault, clearing 8-0.

For the South Callaway boys, Brendon Mealy cleared 11-11.75 in the pole vault to place second and tossed the javelin 133 feet for another runner-up result.

Tyler Potter ran the 110-meter hurdles in 17.74 to place third.
