Hannibal scored on a penalty kick after a handball was called against Fulton with about 30 seconds to play as the visiting Pirates stunned the Hornets soccer team in a 3-2 NCMC loss at the high school athletic complex Thursday night.

Fulton suffered consecutive losses for the first time this season in slipping to 7-3 overall and 1-3 in the North Central Missouri Conference. The Hornets were coming off a 3-2 NCMC loss at Kirksville that was decided on penalty kicks Tuesday night.

"The guys aren't down," Fulton head coach Joel Henley said. "They're upset when the game's over and they've lost, but their heads are up.

"We still have everything out in front of us to accomplish - there's a lot of season left."

The Hornets owned a 1-0 edge at halftime after senior forward Mason Crane scored off an assist from senior midfielder Clement Mahoro in the 22nd minute of the first half.

The score stayed that way until Hannibal pulled even with a goal in the 29th minute of the second half. Fulton then grabbed a 2-1 advantage when Mahoro tallied a goal - assisted by freshman midfielder Jayden Ayers - in the 36th minute.

The Pirates then jolted the Hornets with the game-tying goal with :52 remaining in regulation and pulled off the dramatic victory on the penalty kick with about a half-minute to go.

Hannibal decisively outshot Fulton 21-10, including a 17-7 margin in shots on goal.

"We didn't capitalize - we had several one-on-one opportunities against the keeper and didn't put it in," Henley said. "We've got to make sure we finish our chances."

The Hornets (1-6) lost the junior varsity game 2-1. Sophomore defender Aidan Romero scored Fulton's only goal.
