Cross Country: Gaines comes in first in Fulton triangular

Senior Kayanna Gaines triumphed in 20:35.37 to lead the FUlton Lady Hornets in Saturday's home triangular with North Callaway and Mexico at the high school athletic complex.

North Callaway senior Kaleigh Moore came in second behind Gaines in 21:20.60 as the Ladybirds took first place as a team with 24 points. Mexico was second with 31 points, while Fulton did not field a full team.

Freshman Pressley Schmauch finished third for North Callaway in 22:11.27, while junior Rachael Jeffries was sixth in 23:18.70. Junior Piper Jeffries followed in seventh in 23:19.20 and senior Makenna Allen came in 12th in 24:41.30.

Sophomore Taylor Hickerson finished 11th in 24:25.00 for Fulton, sophomore Jonna Vanzetti took 14th in 25:59.50 and freshman Georgia Monroe was 20th in 43:58.00.

In the varsity boys' division, Fulton junior Shaun Wolfe collected the individual title in 18:16.08 as the Hornets were second with 34 points. Mexico took first place with 27 points and North Callaway was third with 70.

Senior Isaac Avery came in fourth in 18:38.47 for Fulton, while junior Jacob Barnes finished eighth in 19:31.05. Sophomore Carter Meyerhoff took 10th in 19:47.76 and junior Xander Noel was next in 11th in 20:08.00.

North Callaway senior Grant Eichman finished fifth in 18:39.42 to lead the Thunderbirds, while sophomore Brendan Reinhard came in 13th in 20:16.66. Junior David Nevels was 15th in 21:01.72 and seniors Joseph Crawford and Noah Scrogum were 20th and 21st, respectively, in 21:35.11 and 21:38.05.

Fulton and North Callaway both compete in the Gans Creek Classic at 9 a.m. Saturday in Columbia.
