High school softball: New Bloomfield 3, Russellville 0

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Freshman starter Peityn Thomas threw a shutout and struck out nine in the Lady Wildcats' Show-Me Conference win over the Lady Indians on Thursday night.

Thomas scattered seven hits and overcame four walks in improving to 2-0 on the season.

"Peityn did a great job of keeping her composure, even in some tough situations," New Bloomfield head coach Dara Reinkemeyer said.

The Lady Wildcats (4-1, 2-0 SMC) ended a scoreless tie by scoring all three of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. One run scored on a Russellville error, while junior third baseman Asya Nichols and sophomore second baseman Avery Nichols both drove in runs with singles.

Asya Nichols was 3-for-3 and scored a run as New Bloomfield collected seven hits. Avery Nichols went 1-for-3.

The Lady Wildcats host Sturgeon at 5 p.m. today.
