Fulton's Siegel opens with 101 at Class 2 girls golf state championships

NEW BLOOMFIELD - Fulton junior Grace Siegel opened Day One of the Class 2 girls golf state championships Monday with a 29-over 101 at Meadow Lake Acres Country Club.

That score puts Siegel in a tie for 37th place out of 75 golfers, along with Ursuline Academy's Erin Fagan and Molly Fagan, Visitation Academy's Olga Forshaw and Warrensburg's Allie Phelps.

Siegel, who was in the fourth group to tee off hole No. 10, shot a 51 on her first nine holes, shooting a par on the par-4 15th hole. She followed that with a 50 on next last nine holes, getting another par on the par-3 sixth hole.

Siegel also posted eight bogeys and four double-bogeys in her round.

Springfield Catholic's Reagan Zibilski opened the state championships with a 2-under 70, recording five birdies, 10 pars and three bogeys. She starts today's final round with a seven-stroke lead against Logan-Rogersville's Brooke Wagner.

Springfield Catholic also holds the lead in the team standings with a 329. Father Tolton is three strokes behind in second place.

Siegel will begin today's final round with a 9:24 a.m. tee time on hole No. 10. She will play alongside Erin Fagan and Forshaw.

The top 15 finishers with ties will receive all-state honors.
