Girls Golf: New Bloomfield qualifies three for state

COLUMBIA - New Bloomfield junior Sylvia Moss, senior Kara Beckett and freshman Dixie Moss each posted a state-qualifying score Monday in the Class 1 District 1 girls golf tournament at LA Nickell Golf Course.

New Bloomfield finished fifth out of 10 teams in the final district standings with a four-player team score of 439.

Sylvia Moss placed third out of 54 individuals with an 18-over 88. She trailed only Centralia's ReaLee Smith, who won the individual district title with a 12-over 82, and Villa Duchesne's Kathryn Fesler, who was runner-up with a 16-over 86.

Beckett tied for 13th place with a 105, while Dixie Moss finished right on the cut line for state. She was in a five-way tie for 17th place with a 107.

The top 18 finishers - including ties - receive all-district honors and qualify for the state tournament, a new standard implemented by MSHSAA for boys and girls golf this season.

Other New Bloomfield golfers were senior Magdalen Sessler, who placed 49th with a 139. Finishing one spot behind Sessler was junior Rylea Click, who carded a 143.

Sylvia Moss, Dixie Moss and Beckett will all advance to the Class 1 state tournament, which will be next Monday and Tuesday at Paradise Pointe Golf Course in Smithville.

South Callaway had two golfers compete in Monday's district tournament.

Sophomore Gabrielle Hecktor finished in 40th place with a 126 for the Lady Bulldogs, while sophomore Isabelle Vandeloecht came in 51st place with a 147.
