Talbot, New Bloomfield softball topples St. Elizabeth

NEW BLOOMFIELD - New Bloomfield junior catcher Brooke Talbot hit a home run and drove in three runs to spark the Lady Wildcats' 7-2 Show-Me Conference win Friday night against St. Elizabeth.

New Bloomfield (12-6, 6-1 SMC) broke a tie at 1 and took control with a six-run outburst in the bottom of the second inning. St. Elizabeth tallied its other run in the top of the fifth.

Talbot went 2-for-2 with an RBI double in the first, a two-run homer in the second and a run scored as the Lady Wildcats accumulated 10 hits. Senior center fielder Makenna Branch finished 2-for-3 with two RBI, a triple and scored a run, while sophomore left fielder Brinley Dysart was also 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored.

Freshman shortstop Ashlyn Peters went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and scored a run.

New Bloomfield junior starter Asya Nichols logged the complete-game victory, giving up two earned runs on eight hits and striking out nine.

"It was great to see the confidence in the girls," Lady Wildcats head coach Dara Reinkemeyer said. "We hit solid and played a great defensive game.

"Asya pitched an excellent game by moving the ball around."

The win clinches the Lady Wildcats at least a share of the conference title. Eugene is 5-1 in the conference and would share the Show-Me title with New Bloomfield win a today against Russellville.

New Bloomfield ends the regular season with a non-conference game at 5 p.m. today at California.
