MSHSAA still planning to hold state championships for spring sports

The Missouri State High School Activities Association is holding out hope state championships for spring sports will be held this year.

In a statement released Tuesday night, MSHSAA announced its staff "continues to find possible venues and back up venues, as well as continue to develop multiple variations of what a postseason may look like."

With all schools in the state closed at least for the foreseeable future because of COVID-19, teams are not allowed to practice or hold competitions.

In the release, MSHSAA said it recommends to follow the instructions from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as government leaders to limit large gatherings and close interaction.

"Doing so could ultimately end up salvaging the spring sports season," the release said.

The state championships for spring sports usually take place in May and June.
