High school girls' basketball: Lady Hornets fall in regular-season finale

The Fulton Lady Hornets closed out the regular season with a 53-34 North Central Missouri Conference loss to the rival Mexico Lady Bulldogs on Friday night at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium.

Fulton (6-18, 1-9 NCMC) fell behind 21-6 after one quarter and was down 30-17 at halftime. The Lady Hornets trailed 43-29 entering the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Kayanna Gaines paced Fulton with 11 points and sophomore guard Kiah Pittman contributed seven.

"Mexico came out firing shots and knocking them down, and they were beating us inside," Lady Hornets head coach Dillan Brunk said.

Logan Blevins logged a game-high 14 points to direct three players in double figures for the Lady Bulldogs. Mya Miller was next with 12 points and Reghan Smith added 11.

Fulton is the No. 6 seed for this week's Class 4, District 8 Tournament in Mexico. The Lady Hornets play No. 3 seed Warrenton in the quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

"We've talked about dictating how our season ends, and not letting someone else dictate that," Brunk said.
