High school girls' basketball: Lady Hornets rally to take seventh place at California

CALIFORNIA - Fulton junior guard Kayanna Gaines finished with 14 points as the No. 7 seed Lady Hornets rallied for a 49-47 win over Rock Bridge's junior varsity in the seventh-place game of the 26th-annual California Tournament on Saturday.

Fulton (3-10) - which stopped an eight-game losing streak - erased a 30-25 deficit by outscoring No. 8 seed Rock Bridge 24-17 in the fourth quarter.

"We finally got some of the shots we were taking to fall, then we got on a little run and stole the momentum," head coach Dillan Brunk said of the Lady Hornets' comeback.

Junior forward Sydney Hedgpath tallied 13 points for Fulton and sophomore guard Kiah Pittman added 12.

"This should be a good boost for us," Brunk said. "Going into the locker room, there was some excitement among the girls. Hopefully it will carry over."

Christina Maltsberger and Nina Maddox shared game scoring honors with 16 points apiece to guide Rock Bridge.

The Lady Hornets play a makeup game at Boonville at 6 p.m. Monday.
