High school girls' basketball: New Haven 43, New Bloomfield 33

MOKANE - The No. 7 seed Lady Wildcats were unable to recover from a 20-6 deficit in falling to the No. 6 Lady Shamrocks in the consolation semifinals of the South Callaway Invitational Tournament on Wednesday night.

New Bloomfield (5-8) was down 12-3 after one quarter and trailed 23-15 at halftime. The Lady Wildcats outscored New Haven 11-5 in the third quarter to close within 28-26 and briefly took the lead in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Shamrocks were able to hold on for the win.

Freshman guard Micah Edwards topped New Bloomfield with 12 points.

"The girls fought hard and didn't quit, but we couldn't pull it off," Lady Wildcats head coach Brett Craighead said.

Mackenzie Wilson directed New Haven with a game-high 20 points and Ellie Westermeyer supplied 15.

New Bloomfield is scheduled to face No. 8 seed North Callaway for seventh place at 6 tonight in the middle school gym. North Callaway bowed to No. 4 Russellville 54-49 in Wednesday night's other consolation semifinal.
