High school boys' basketball: Riordan, Eagles rout Iowa School for Deaf

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - Missouri School for the Deaf junior guard Jayden Riordan knocked down a game-high 26 points to help steer the Eagles to a convincing 51-30 victory over the Iowa School for the Deaf on Saturday.

MSD (4-3) - winners of two in a row - started fast, pouncing on Iowa for a 16-0 advantage after one quarter. The Eagles carried a 24-12 lead into halftime and were up 37-22 heading to the fourth quarter.

Riordan also recorded seven rebounds, three assists and three steals, while senior center Mikal Meriwether posted a double-double for MSD with 21 points and 12 rebounds.

On Friday night at the Iowa School for the Deaf, Riordan tallied 20 points and had six steals as the Eagles manhandled Metro Deaf School 57-4.

Junior guard Conner Luper chipped in with nine points and four assists for MSD, which cruised into halftime with a commanding 43-0 lead. Meriwether followed with eight points and five rebounds.

The Eagles were coming off a 54-37 loss at Chamois on Thursday night. MSD trailed 16-9 after one quarter and was down 28-19 at halftime. The Pirates then took control by outscoring the Eagles 14-3 in the third quarter to widen their lead to 42-22.

Meriwether topped MSD with 19 points and Riordan supplied 14.

Eli Deppi paced Chamois with 19 points and Devin Warren contributed 11.

The Eagles play at Higbee at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
