MOBERLY - The Lady Hornets dropped to 6-17 on the season and 1-8 in the North Central Missouri Conference after a narrow loss to the Lady Spartans on Tuesday night.

Fulton - which was swept by Moberly in the season series - trailed 8-5 after one quarter, but outscored the Lady Spartans 10-6 in the second quarter to take a 15-14 edge into halftime.

Moberly countered by outscoring the Lady Hornets 15-12 in the third quarter to go back in front 29-27, then held off Fulton in the fourth quarter.

Junior guard Kayanna Gaines topped the Lady Hornets with a game-high 20 points. Sophomore guard Kiah Pittman contributed eight points.

"We were getting good shots off in the first half, but they were not falling," Fulton head coach Dillan Brunk said. "Defensively, I was proud of how our girls played - we limited (Moberly's) Mary Billington on the offensive end and only held her to nine points."

Aleesia Oliver paced the Lady Spartans with 13 points.

The Lady Hornets lost the junior varsity contest 26-18. Sophomore guard Kyela Macon scored six points.

Fulton ends the regular season at home against NCMC rival Mexico at 6 p.m. Friday at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium. The Lady Hornets bowed at Mexico 43-33 on Jan. 3.
